Don is currently a full time Assistant Professor of Art in the School of the Arts, at  Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, teaching color theory, structure of design, painting and drawing.  Don has an earned Ph.D. in Visual Communication with a specialty in American Indian imagery.  He is an artist member of the Indian Arts and Crafts Association, Oil Painters of America and the Portrait Society of America. He is a former President and one of the co-founders of the Southern Watercolor Society. 

He was one of the youngest artists to be included in Who's Who in American Art and his biography has been produced in every edition since 1973. He is also listed in Marquis Who's Who and Who's Who in American Education.  His work has been featured in American Artist magazine, The New York Art Review and Northlight  magazine as well as other regional and national publications. Don is the author of "Mastering Glazing Techniques in Watercolor", "Painting From Sketches, Photographs and the Imagination" and "Answers to 50 of the Most Often Asked Questions About Watercolor Glazing Techniques", all originally Watson-Guptill Publications. His work was featured in "Painting the Landscape" by Elizabeth Leonard and "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Watercolor" edited by Marian Appelof,  also Watson-Guptill Publications.  His work has also been translated and published in foreign language editions as well as produced in video productions. Don's paintings are found in many corporate and private collections.

Recently "Mastering Glazing Techniques in Watercolor", Revised Edition, Volume I  has been  updated and expanded in a new paperback version available through and various retail outlets. Also, the highly successful production of "The Antique Shop" has been remastered from the originals and produced in DVD format, also available from
